Under the Elephant's Tail... Owen Sound

I'm about to display the, perhaps sad, fact that I think I am from the most beautiful place on eath. Yes, I look for stuff in my spare time. I couldn't resist sharing. I'm ever so slightly homesick... so sue me!

I think I took the title of this from a book my dad has, but I can't find the author.

I have been looking at pictures of my hometown (Owen Sound) for a while this morning. As the title of this particular blog suggests, we are located under the tail of the elephant. The elephant is able to be seen in southern Ontario... some people can't see it. I'll attempt to demonstrate (the image must be turned a little bit for the elephant to be standing upright):

And then there is Owen Sound, the elephant's butt hole.

Some (more or less) interesting facts about Owen Sound:
-Had the most northern end to the Underground Railroad
-WWI flying ace Billy Bishop was from Owen Sound
-Nellie McClung (known for establishing women as persons) was born just outside the city and attended highschool in O.S.
-painter Tom Thompson (famous for his work and death) was from just outside of the city
-Greenwood Cemetery the only in Canada to have three Victoria Cross winners (Billy Bishop, Tommy Holmes, David Currie)
-the Summerfolk Festival is known far and wide
-the Fishing Derby is also known far and wide
(there's more, but I'll leave it there and move on to...)

Pictures! All of these are from www.osaic.com and are of Owen Sound and the surrounding area.

Owen Sound is on the Niagara Escarpment and as such has many water falls, including--
**Inglis**

**Jones**

**Indian**

The harbour is on Georgian Bay (part of Lake Huron)--

Downtown Owen Sound--

That's all... I couldn't find any more very exciting pictures.

Wow, I love those water falls! I wish we had waterfalls by Chatham...we have...corn fields! Woot! *sarcasm* You're lucky to live there, I have to travel 4+ hours to see something beautiful.

Rose, we have the farms as well. Not corn so much, though... animals. There's nothing like cows loose in the school parking lot.

Shawn, the elephant can be seen by turning the picture of Southern Ontario I posted 90-degrees to the right.
Windsor is the tip of his trunk
Sarnia is the top of his head
Goderich is on his back
Tobermory is the tip of his tail
Niagara Falls is his front foot
--he's a proud elephant; his trunk's way up in the air. Here has a picture with cities: http://soto.on.ca/media/uploads/Map_lowercase_LR.jpg

Rose, it's going to take a whole lot more than someone else not seeing the elephant to make up for your insanity...
